Residential Design

A typical residential design project consists of the following five phases:

  • Project Assessment

  • Planning & Design

  • Envelope & Infrastructure

  • Exterior Design & Landscaping

  • Finishing

  • Project Assessment

The project begins with gathering strategic information from the client about the preferences towards the overall project plan. The client completes a comprehensive “design assessment” form specifying design details in each living area, typically by room. The client may be asked to supply photos or videos of the living spaces and items within the space that they wish to keep in the redesigned plan. Occasionally some measurements will have to be taken. The document is reviewed by Viali and the overall project direction and budget is agreed upon, and contracts drawn up.

  • Planning & Design

A comprehensive, detailed project plan for space use and layout is prepared and reviewed with the client based on the input from the design assessment completed in the previous step. The project plan and design concept are reviewed by Viali and the client until finalized.

  • Envelope & Infrastructure

The “envelope” refers to the building structure, including exterior and interior walls, ceilings and floors, windows, roof and more. Infrastructure refers to systems such as plumbing and electrical, HVAC, automation, audio/visual, security and more. If the client engages Viali for Project Coordination, Viali directs and monitors construction to ensure it adheres to the plan and design.

  • Exterior Design & Landscaping

Exterior design refers to exterior cladding and finishes, porches and balconies, windows, roofing, landscaping and hardscaping, irrigation, out buildings, outdoor living spaces, swimming pools, patios, etc. If the client engages Viali for Project coordination, Viali directs and monitors design and construction to ensure the work adheres to the plan and overall design intent.

  • Finishing

The finishing stage involves selection, procurement and installation of home automation and security devices, moldings, trims and door hardware, railings, floor finishes, plumbing and electrical fixtures, window treatments, area rugs, appliances and furniture, interior painting, wall coverings and art. Home automation scenes are developed to suit the homeowner's lifestyle.  In some cases finishing may also include whole home outfitting such as the selection and purchase of bedding, linens, kitchen accoutrements and more.
