Ethanol Fireplaces

Updated: May 11, 2021

Add a fireplace to your room today. Safe, Clean, Stylish.

It’s that time of year again. Temperatures have dropped below zero, and we’re all seeking comfort in this day of the pandemic. Everybody appreciates the warmth of a fireplace. You can add a fireplace to your favourite living space today. It’s easier than you think, with modern ethanol (also known as bio-ethanol) fireplaces. Ethanol fireplaces burn biofuel called ethanol which is derived primarily from corn and sugarcane. The fuel is denatured alcohol, which produces no smoke, smell, or dangerous chemicals when burning. These fireplaces are simple to light and to extinguish safely. One quart of fuel burns for up to five hours, depending on the size of the flame. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes of warm-up time and the flame, which starts out pure blue, turns to a beautiful orange and red traditional flame colour. They do not require a chimney and they give a real flame, not some imitation like an electric fireplace. They emit a surprising amount of heat, and can be installed in any room in your home. Some models are designed to install into existing, wood burning fireplaces that you’re no longer using. They can be installed on a wall, or on their own. They are also sold as portable free-standing units that you can move around from room to room. There are many advantages of ethanol fireplaces:

  1. They are safe. An ethanol fireplace installed in a wall is just as safe, if not safer than most other types of fireplaces. If you have a freestanding fireplace, they are quite safe as long as you do not have pets and/or small children that are capable of tipping it over. The result of ethanol fuel combustion produces water, steam, and carbon dioxide. The quantity of carbon dioxide or CO2 emitted by a burning ethanol fireplace for 3 hours is about equivalent to the amount of CO2 produced by burning 2 average candles.

  2. They are clean. No fumes or soot. The fuel burns quite cleanly, and is more environmentally friendly than wood or natural gas.

  3. They are stylish. There is an incredible selection of modern ethanol fireplaces on the market. Many are fashioned with very high quality stainless steel in a variety of coatings and finishings.
